Nine teams from the City of London got together at the Honourable Artillery Company in City Road on 4th October, to battle it out at this year’s Exercise Sharpe Shooter. Hosted by the City of London Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association and run by volunteers of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, Exercise Sharpe Shooter is an annual indoor military skills competition at which City organisations are given a chance to compete against each other in a fun and friendly military environment. The aim of the event is to generate awareness of the Volunteer Reserve Forces among London firms, many of which have employees serving as Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

Congratulations go to Gardiner and Theobald for taking first prize. They were closely followed by Schroders Personal Wealth as the evenings runners-up.

Other competing organisations included M&G, Ogletree Deakins, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, Quinn Emmanuel, Chaucer, SSAFA and a second team from Schroders Personal Wealth who all put their teamwork and observational skills to the test.

During the evening each team visited ten stands run by London Reserve units including:

  • The London Regiment
  • 71st Signals Regiment
  • 256 Field Hospital
  • Royal Marines Reserve
  • HMS President
  • 7 Rifles
  • University of London Officer Training Corp
  • 3 Military Intelligence Battalion
  • 101 Engineers
  • 600 Squadron RAF Reserves

Event lead, City Secretary, Mike Beard said “Thank you all for coming along tonight and entering into the spirit of the competition and demonstrating such enthusiasm and hard work. All of you who have competed tonight have had the opportunity to meet people in uniform, Regular and Reserve. I hope it has been an evening worth taking part in, and has shown you that our Armed Forces are working with us in society. Well done all of you and thank you for taking part.”
