After two years of pandemic lockdown, this was a chance for cadets to venture out onto Salisbury Plain.
Every year, under normal circumstances, cadets from around London head out of the city and into the vast wilderness of the English countryside to experience a summer bursting with action. From paint-balling in the forest to basic first-aid, there is a wide range of activities for cadets to enjoy and to develop their skills.
Due to the pandemic gap in training, the 2022 Middlesex & North West London ACF camp was the first time for many cadets to venture into the great outdoors – and from conversations during the camp, it appeared that some cadets had not been out of London before. The importance of this adventurous training camp for rebuilding the morale and motivation of cadets and adult volunteers cannot be overstated.
“This was our first residential two-week camp since 2019 due to the restrictions of the pandemic. For most cadets attending, this was their first annual camp and the feedback from the cadets was tremendous. Some didn’t want to go home! I am humbled and overwhelmed with the extent of duty, loyalty and compassion from all the CFAVs, PSS and attached staff which made this a truly memorable camp and contributed hugely to its success. Their hard work and efforts in not only the training delivery but also the consuming other duties too which enables a camp to function, was a testament to their professionalism, enthusiasm and diligence, ensuring that we delivered a rewarding, safe and enjoyable cadet experience.
