Meet Trooper Henry Cook

He is currently serving at the Honourable Artillery Company, City of London.

Henry has answered a few questions before for the London Bridge magazine.

What are some of the challenges you have faced in your military career?

I would say the biggest challenge has been:

It is not a challenge because I enjoy doing it, however, training constantly does take up a lot of my time but it is something you have to accept if you want to do well within your practice. This gives award in its own way.

What is your proudest moment in your military career?

My proudest moment is:

I won Soldier’s Soldier award for my Platoon. Which is voted by my fellow troops for the trooper who has helped them the most in a certain way.

Do you have any fun memories from your time in the Armed Forces that you would like to share? 

On exercise, my Corporal watched me and my basher bud dig flood trenches for where we were sleeping for 2 hours, knowing we were going to be bugged out (Tactical Withdraw) from that area. Laugh in the face of pain.

Why should everyone celebrate or take part in Armed Forces Week activities?

To learn more about the military

To participate in community events

To support military families

The military has a huge amount of tradition in the UK and celebrating that tradition and culture is important.

What was your initial motivation for joining the Armed Forces?

My Father served for 23 years, so we traveled around the world with him.

Meet Naval Airman John Ruddick

Having served in the Armed Forces for 5 years is based at Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm around UK.

What is your proudest moment in your military career?

Being which in the midsole of Murray Field Rugby stadium just before an international rugby match dressed as a referee.

What is the most important thing you have learned in the Armed Forces?

What was your initial motivation for joining the Armed Forces?

My grandfather father uncle, & aunty all served in the Royal Navy.

Do you have any fun memories from your time in the Armed Forces that you would like to share? 

Yes when I was based at RNAS Culdrose during the solar eclipse in 1999.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering joining the Armed Forces?

Focus on both physical and mental readiness.
