When professional Rugby athlete Lauren Brooks isn’t playing for the Harlequins Women, she’s a Reservist with the 151 Royal Logistic Corps (RLC). She was recently awarded Player of the Match against the Royal Navy Rugby Union at Twickenham.
Private Brooks joined the Reserves after meeting the Army Rugby Union and learning how sport is a big part of regimental life. 151 RLC is the only Reserve transport regiment in London providing logistic support to the Army.
In 2021, she started in Harlequins’ victory over Saracens in the Premier 15s final, as the side secured a maiden title. Recently, she made her 50th appearance for the Club against Trailfinders Women, her former squad.

“My family have a rich military history, my dad was in the Royal Engineers, and for me I am a soldier first and sportsperson second.”
Pte Brooks claims that constant support from 151 RLC has been an essential contributing factor in her growth as a sportsperson as well as an individual. The regiment actively informs her of any ongoing sporting events and also encourages her peers to participate. Additionally, attending weekly training plus weekend exercises presents Pte Brooks with opportunities to learn and do something different. Being a Reservist provides her with a fresh perspective, new ways to problem-solve, improved decision-making ability under stress and constructive criticism – skills essential for performing well in any sport. She also gets moral support from her fellow soldiers at sporting events who cheer her on.

“I like a challenge and the military pushes you to be the best version of yourself. I believe core values of an individual define their ethos, and the skills I have learned during my service have certainly strengthened these values, helping me become a better person.”
She strongly advocates for women in sports and believes that positive representation of female athletes is necessary to cultivate interest in women sports across all audiences. Pte Brooks looks forward to getting her driver qualifications with 151 RLC and hopes to continue making the Army proud.
“At 151 Regiment RLC, we’re proud to champion sport as a vital part of regimental life. Whether on the pitch, track, or court, sport builds resilience, teamwork, and camaraderie – qualities that are at the heart of soldiering. Supporting our troops in sport isn’t just about fitness; it’s about fostering a strong, connected, and motivated regiment. Sport also projects our Regimental image with pride – showing that we’re not just ready to serve, but ready to compete, lead, and inspire.”
