As we look back on 2024, we are pleased to confirm that it has been a fantastic example of what makes HMS President so special. While space limits us from celebrating every single achievement – and there have been many – it’s important to highlight just a few of the remarkable individual and team contributions that have once again done the Royal Navy proud!
This year, HMS President’s Reservists demonstrated the critical role they play in supporting the Royal Navy on a global stage. Petty Officer Hearne and Able Seamen Massey were deployed aboard RFA Mounts Bay in the Mediterranean, gaining invaluable seamanship skills while contributing to vital operations in the region. Their work exemplifies the professionalism and versatility of our Reservists, whose skills and dedication are an indispensable part of the Royal Navy’s global capability.

Closer to home, PO Scott took to the field to lead the Maritime Reserves Football Team in their first-ever Inter-Services fixture against the Army Reserves. We need not dwell too long on the result… but the game was a triumph of teamwork, camaraderie, and the indomitable spirit that defines the Reserves!

March saw a moment of great pride for HMS President when CPO Cook, Cox’n of HMS Medway Division, was awarded the prestigious Fishmongers’ Medal 2024. This well-deserved recognition highlights her exceptional contributions to HMS President, the Maritime Trade Operations Specialisation, and her vital role as 2iC for Exercise Crowborough Challenge 2023.

From individual excellence, to facilitating excellence across the three services, HMS President played host to an “Allied Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership Event,” welcoming SNCOs from the UK, USA, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada. Discussions focused on the critical question: “What do we need our SNCOs to be?” We are ever proud to host events such as this, as they reinforce our commitment to fostering leadership and collaboration on a global stage.
During Cowes Week 2024, eight members of HMS President upheld the Royal Navy’s historic ties to The Solent by participating in a variety of naval training exercises in the area. These efforts not only allow us to fly the flag for the Royal Navy, but also cement our strong connection to the broader seafaring community.

HMS President made its mark on several significant ceremonial occasions this year, with November being a particularly busy and poignant month, with Remembrance services taking place across the globe. The highlights being LH Davedass representing HMS President and the Royal Navy at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, and partnering with Royal British Legion to host mindfulness sessions, highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing for serving personnel and veterans.

It hasn’t all been work however. From hosting the US Embassy for trivia and pizza nights through to running out HMS President’s cutter for rowing sessions on the Thames in Richmond, we’ve enjoyed an incredibly vibrant and enjoyable social calendar!

2024 has been a year of remarkable achievements, where every member of HMS President has contributed to this success – Bravo Zulu to all!
