Last year the RNR held its annual Sailing expedition (SAILEX) for Reservists of all ranks and sailing experience from across the UK.
In conjunction with the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) in Gosport, the expedition takes part over a weekend.
The aim of the weekend is to develop knowledge and skills to support the RNR’s ‘Sailor First’ initiative as well as provide opportunities for personnel to practice decision making and leadership in a physically and mentally demanding environment.
With experienced Skippers & Mates assigned to each yacht, a crew of six ‘learn the ropes’ in real time along the Solent, sleeping alongside both nights.
The daily seamanship drills provide a valuable & enjoyable experience with a visit to the Isle of Wight on the final night.
